Environmental Impact

There is no planet B.

Making eco-conscious decisions was such an important part of this project. It was challenging at times but I wanted to do it properly because protecting the environment is really important to me (and hopefully to you too).

The collection is made up of six journaling sets – each including a large 200 page journal, a small 40 page notebook and a homemade fabric sleeve. The product stickers are placed onto the sleeve, and the sets are wrapped in brown paper, sealed with tape and placed into a secure book mailer ready to be labelled for delivery.

The products and their packaging are all made from sustainable or recycled materials, and all of the components are both recyclable and biodegradable. Please find more detailed information below.

The Books

The books are made entirely from FSC certified papers, and predominantly from recycled fibres. After months of research, I decided on an uncoated, carbon neutral paper range made from post-consumer waste. 300gsm was chosen for the covers and 120gsm for the unruled white pages. They are premium quality papers with a high-white finish (yet chlorine-free). They have FSC Recycled certification.

There are just four coloured pages at the centre of every journal that are not made from recycled fibres. The pink, mint and emerald pages (depending on the cover) are from the renowned and FSC certified Colorplan range, and they are made from virgin ECF fibres. Both paper ranges are recyclable and biodegradable.

The Sleeve

A packaging sleeve was needed to keep the journal and notebook together as a set and to also provide information about the ica brand and our products. However, I did not want it to be a throwaway item. Therefore, I decided to move away from the traditional paper product sleeve and make reusable fabric sleeves instead.

The sleeves are made in small batches at home from GOTS certified 100% organic cotton fabric and thread. The journal and notebook can be kept in the sleeve for protection and privacy.

The product stickers on either side of the sleeve can be removed, recycled or stuck inside the journals. They are made from a sustainable, uncoated paper.

The Packaging

The journaling sets are wrapped in brown recycled paper for protection. This brown paper can be reused or recycled. A 100% natural Kraft paper tape is used to secure the wrap.

A small number of Colorplan sheets were leftover from production. They have been used to make thank you tags to attach to the wrapped parcels. These are attached using a recycled metal paper clip, acting as a page marker for the journals too.

The parcels are placed into a book mailer made from FSC certified materials which uses a natural rubber for the adhesive. It

is also a carbon neutral packaging item. The address label is made from chlorine-free recycled paper.

There is no planet B. We ask that you please reuse or recycle all of our packaging.

Thank you!
